Delicate hand-brewed enjoyment
The 400-year-old walls of the former estate of Schloss Weinberg are now home to the Schlossbrauerei brewery. Beer has been brewed here since the Middle Ages, but Waltraud Leitner is almost certainly the first woman to hold the brewing paddle in her hands in this historic building. The beer is brewed right in the dining room, where the brewing kettle and lauter tun are located. A master brewer assists Waltraud Leitner with the brewing, while the trained restaurant manager takes care of the rest herself. ‘I enjoy brewing just as much as working in the restaurant. And I can personally vouch for the quality of the beer,’ says the passionate landlady.
Goodness so close at hand
Special regional ingredients are used in the brewing kettle, such as brewing barley grown on the estate's own land. The Mühlviertel primary rock water comes from a spring located in the immediate vicinity. Regionality also plays an important role in the kitchen: beef, trout and game, among other things, come from the estate, which received organic certification in June 2018.
The castle brewery also focuses on beer diversity: in addition to light and dark beer, a bock beer is brewed in autumn and the ‘Weinberger Roggenbier’ in spring, which is traditionally tapped on Palm Saturday. These are served with hearty steaks from the estate's own cattle breeding.
Idyllic view from the outdoor dining area
The Schlossbrauerei is popular with guests not only for its home-brewed beer and typical Mühlviertel cuisine, but also for its cosy outdoor dining area on warm days. From the tables under the shady chestnut trees, you have a picturesque view of Weinberg Castle and the idyllic hilly landscape of the lower Mühlviertel region.
Relaxation on the hunt
As a passionate hunter, Waltraud Leitner finds peace and quiet at the hunting lodge with her husband or on a walk up Kefermarkt's local mountain, the Vogeltenn. There she recharges her batteries, which she needs again at the latest when filling the brewing kettle.
