An excellently signposted network of riding trails covering more than 1,500 kilometres, specialised trail riding establishments, riding stables, cosy riding hostels and horse rest stops ensure an all-round carefree package for you and your horse. Varied trail riding tours as well as exciting training and further education programmes for beginners and advanced riders complete the diverse offer.

The Mühlviertler Alm horse kingdom

A 700-kilometre network of well-signposted riding trails, more than 50 specialised riding stables, riding hostels and horse rest stops invite you to relax and enjoy yourself on horseback.

The Mühlviertel offers trail riders a perfect natural landscape. Dense forests, granite hills and babbling brooks stretching south to the Danube - this is what characterises the Mühlviertel landscape. Nature that is perfect for trail riders. The Mühlviertler Alm horse region in the north-east of the Mühlviertel, offers everything a trail rider's heart desires. More than 50 horse stables and equestrian hostels where riders and horses can take a well-deserved break and eight adventure and relaxation areas that not only invite you to take a break, but also to enjoy a variety of activities such as crossing a suspension bridge.

Experience the adventure of REST - 110 km of enjoyment

Time in the open air, time on horseback, time with friends - and finding inner peace in the process. Since 2012, the Johannesweg has enjoyed great popularity as a hiking trail, and since 2018 there has been a wonderful route for riders, the JohannesRITT.

The 110 km long JohannesRITT offers the opportunity to experience the Mühlviertler Alm horse region from a special perspective on a dedicated riding route.

Switch off, reflect and blossom is the motto.

The HoamatRITT is the ideal tour for horse lovers who are starting out with trail riding. You can experience many outstanding scenic features in two to three days on an easy-to-ride loop of around 55 kilometres. The varied route is pure Mühlviertler Alm - "HoamatGEFÜHL".

Past impressive granite formations, through forests and across meadows, the HoamatRITT is varied and full of sensual experiences. And in between you will come to vantage points with marvellous views as far as the Alps. The HoamatRITT is the first digital trail riding tour on the Mühlviertler Alm.

The variety of learning from and with the friendly four-legged friends is something the horse people of the riding region Mühlviertler Kernland have made it their mission. Find joie de vivre in encounters, work and sport with horses. A gentle hilly landscape awaits riders, offering ever-changing views of the countryside, and is perfect for exploring on horseback. The riding region has a large number of riding establishments, riding stables and riding rest areas, a 450-kilometre network of bridle paths and links to the neighbouring riding regions of Pferdereich and the Czech Republic. In the Mühlviertler Kernland riding region, these routes can be individually accompanied by qualified trainers, riding instructors, riding pedagogues and horse people.

You can explore the beauty of the Mühlviertel and make unforgettable memories on a well-marked network of 400 kilometres of trails.

Our network of bridleways takes you to impressive castle ruins, to the border area with the Czech Republic and even beyond. Enjoy the hospitality in cosy inns or visit a whiskey distillery for a special tasting.

The proximity to first-class hotels around Bad Leonfelden allows you to take relaxing wellness breaks during your trail riding tours. Your horse can also recover and recharge its batteries at a nearby stables.

Things to know about holidays with a horse Mühlviertel

Make sure your horse is healthy and has all the necessary vaccinations. Get it used to being transported and pack enough food and water for the journey.
If your horse has a shoe, be sure to check it promptly before your holiday.
For a trail ride in the Mühlviertel, your horse should also be well prepared for the hilly terrain during training.

Yes, many riding stables offer riding lessons for beginners. These courses are ideal for learning the basics of riding and gaining confidence in handling horses.

Always wear a helmet and suitable riding clothes. Make sure your horse is well trained and prepared for the environment to avoid accidents.
It is recommended that you bring your own equipment such as saddle, bridle and grooming items. However, some farms also offer the option of hiring equipment on site.

Yes, the Mühlviertel has an extensive network of bridleways. These trails are well signposted and offer different levels of difficulty for beginners and experienced riders. The riding maps provide a good overview and help you find your way around. In the Mühlviertler Alm horse region, the WANDI app (Wanderreiten digital) offers you safe and effortless orientation during your riding tour as well as for tour planning.

Many establishments also provide horses for hire. Please clarify this in advance with the selected riding centre.

In the Mühlviertel the horses are well looked after. Our stables offer various accommodation options such as single boxes, boxes with paddocks, paddock boxes and open stables.
