Mühlviertel family business with a wide range of beers
Tradition is also a good keyword when describing Heidi Blumauer's philosophy: her aim is to preserve the traditional significance of the inn as an important meeting place for people. With her friendly and warm manner, she makes it easy for guests to feel at home in the dining room right away. The many guests show that she is successful in this endeavour: there are several regulars' tables at the Blumauer, as well as the classic Sunday morning pint. With a hall that can accommodate up to 250 people, it is also the ideal venue for all kinds of events – from weddings to family and Christmas celebrations to seminars.
But the Blumauer is not only popular with regulars and locals – many guests also stay overnight. The 13 rooms with 26 beds were all renovated a few years ago and brought up to the latest standards.
Great importance is attached to tradition in the kitchen: the menu features down-to-earth, home-style cooking and traditional Mühlviertel dishes. Many of the ingredients come from the immediate vicinity: milk, yoghurt and curd cheese are supplied by the Gusnerhof farm in Apfoltern, trout and char are caught in Rainbach, and organic eggs from happy hens come from the nearby village of Passberg. Seasonal specialities take centre stage during the Schmankerlwochen (delicacy weeks).
Mühlviertel beer culture
The diversity of Mühlviertel beer culture is also reflected in the beer menu. Six different varieties are on offer, plus bottled beers from various Mühlviertel breweries, as Heidi Blumauer explains: ‘We have a lot of good products in the Mühlviertel, and beer really stands out. The diversity, taste and quality are simply unique in our region.’ There is no shortage of beer expertise either: all service staff have completed training as beer coaches or beer keepers.
The forest as an energy source
For Heidi Blumauer, the beautiful landscape of the Mühlviertel is also unique. Here she finds balance in her everyday working life – preferably with her golden retriever ‘Balu’. ‘For me, the forest is like an energy filling station. When I bathe in the forest air, I can recharge my batteries in the midst of nature. It makes you realise what a gem we actually have here in the Mühlviertel.’
