Kollerschlag

The parish church of St Joseph is definitely worth a visit. The church was built between 1787 and 1800 in the late Baroque style. And the story revolves around the altar with the painting 'Death of St Joseph': it originally stood in the Schlägl monastery church and was to be moved to Kollerschlag by order of the nobility. However, the priests hesitated, so the inhabitants of the village took the painting down themselves. This "robbery" -Kollerschlag was rectified in 1992 at the provincial exhibition when he presented a copy of Schlägl Monastery.

In the birthplace of poet Norbert Hanrieder, preserved culture meets the beauty of the local landscape. Norbert Hanrieder was born in Kollerschlag on 2 June 1842. His father Josef Hanrieder emigrated from Donauwörth in Germany and from 1834 he worked as a doctor and looked after archives. The poet's mother Franziska came from neighbouring Julbach. Hanrieder wanted to learn German, he had to prioritise the priest's mission in time. So he attended a seminary in Linz. In 1866, he was appointed a priest by Bishop Rudigier. His first post was in Losenstein in Ennstal. In 1869 he was transferred to Peilstein, closer to his home. He spent a year in Sarleinsbach and came to Putzleinsdorf in 1874, which became his second home. He was a faithful clergyman for almost 40 years. Norbert Hanrieder died on 14 October 1913.
