Whether as preparation, in your rucksack while travelling or as a memento - the forest primer combines information with inspiration. It invites you to consciously discover the forest hill world - with open eyes and respectful behaviour.
Travelling through the forest hills means walking over soft forest floors, past imposing granite formations and through hilly landscapes with far-reaching views. Some paths lead to hidden places of power, streams and springs, others simply lead to good thoughts.
The gentle hills of the Mühlviertel characterise the landscape and repeatedly open up views into the distance. Travelling here gives you a quiet feeling of freedom.
The granite landscape of the Mühlviertel has created impressive shapes over thousands of years - from mighty boulders to bizarre rock formations. Many of these rock formations lie in the middle of the forest and seem to have been placed by chance - powerful, silent and full of history.
The rivers of the Waldhügelwelt glisten in warm amber - their water clear, cool and lively. Sometimes they babble quietly through the undergrowth, sometimes they spring from ancient springs that have always been considered to have healing powers.
The forest hills are home to a wide variety of nature: ferns, wild herbs, mushrooms, eagle owls, great spotted woodpeckers, deer - and with a bit of luck you might even spot a kingfisher on the Feldaist. Parts of the region belong to the NATURA 2000 and European Green Belt protected areas - a habitat for many rare animal and plant species.
