Donausteig-resting point "Rotes Kreuz

This Donausteig rest area is idyllically situated on the edge of the forest just above Kasten. It offers a marvellous view of the Danube Gorge valley downstream and the Jochenstein power station just 5 km away - simply beautiful!
The information board provides a brief overview of the history of Vichtenstein. The legend "Glück gehabt am Teufelsstein" ("Good luck at the Devil's Stone"), on the other hand, warns us to be careful with our own wishes - especially at the Teufelsbach in Vichtenstein!

The Red Cross is a time-honoured wayside cross in a wooded area just above Kasten. It bears witness to the age and importance of this connecting path between Kasten and Vichtenstein. We will find out more about the interpretation of wayside crosses later under "Wayside crosses - narrative field monuments".

Incidentally, the children from Kasten once walked to school in Vichtenstein along this path.
