Everything turns, everything moves, everything makes music ...
In the Museum "Mechanical Sound Factory" entertain curious musical instruments, pompous orchestrations, snarling lenders, delicate music boxes, elegant gramophones, original back pianos, lovingly designed barrel organs and much more. 150 exhibits from the baroque to the present day convey nostalgia, fascinating technology and the best in musical entertainment. They were compiled by the former Haslacher weaving owner Erwin Rechberger and bought in 2005 by the province of Upper Austria for the mechanical sound factory.
"That sounds so wonderful, that sounds so beautiful" - these verses from Mozart's Magic Flute also characterize the surprising variety of special machines. Once they provided the right music for every situation in life - in salons, dance halls, coffee houses and inns, at folk festivals and in kirtagen. They offer to this day a feast for the ear and the eye and astonish by their sophisticated control using punched cards or pin rollers. Embedded in atmospheric experience spaces and provided with the necessary portion of additional information, one not only learns music-historical and technical details of these sounding marvels, but can also immerse in moods and entertainment possibilities of earlier times with the help of tongue-in-cheek quotes and selected music samples. In the course of a guided tour, the instruments are played and their inner life is demonstrated.
