An extraordinary rock formation on the Oberneukirchner Berg. A saga tells about the devil ...
Initially, the plan was to build the planned church on the Oberneukirchner Berg.
Construction had already started. When the walls had outgrown the ground, it suddenly seemed as if supernatural forces wanted to prevent the building of the church at that point at all costs. The work of the previous day was repeatedly destroyed in the morning. After many unsuccessful attempts, the unsuccessful effort was finally abandoned. The church was finally built on the existing chapel in the village without any further disturbance.
Popular belief attributed the disturbing incidents to the devil. He is said to have knocked down the walls again and again and brought the material in a sack to the "Kronet", a forest and bushy area near Waxenberg. He has lost some stone from his sack. That is why the Mitterfeld used to be so rich in stones, until the diligent diligence of its inhabitants dug out most of the blocks and put them together to "stone walls" at the borders of the individual possessions.
This high block of stone protruding from the ground bears the imprints of an inexpressible body part of the devil. Tired of his exhausting destruction, he had sat on that stone to rest.
The people assumed supernatural powers in the form of this stone and the remains of the church building in the tangle of rocks.
