The exhibition "Dipdii Textiles" in the Galerie im Gwölb shows unique textile pieces from Bangladesh that combine traditional craftsmanship with sustainability and social responsibility.

On display are handmade wall and utility textiles made from recycled saris and fabrics, which are transformed into unique artistic pieces using traditional embroidery techniques such as Nakshi kantha embroidery. Each piece tells of memory, cultural identity and the realities of the lives of the women involved.
Dipdii Textiles sees itself as a counter-model to the global fast fashion industry. Instead of standardized mass production, the project relies on local resources, craftsmanship and decentralized production in rural Bangladeshi communities. This not only creates high-quality textiles, but also new economic prospects for local families.
The project was initiated by architect Anna Heringer and master tailor Veronika Lena Lang together with the Bangladeshi NGO Dipshikha. The creative direction, design and project management are the responsibility of fashion designer ELKE BURMEISTER HAUG and her label Ökutür. As part of the exhibition, Elke Burmeister-Haug provides insights into the background of the project and shows how textile production can be designed in a sustainable and people-oriented way.
