Upcycling at the Haslach Textile Centre

Many items of clothing today end up in the rubbish bin or in used clothing containers because they have gone out of fashion or no longer fit. 

For the former wearer, however, they are usually associated with memories and often the material from which they were made is of high quality and too good to dispose of. To avoid having to part with former favourite items, the old clothes brought along are cut into strips, then woven into a cotton warp on ready-made looms and made into seat covers. The strips can also be swapped with each other so that everyone can weave in a memento of their group. As an alternative to the old clothes, colourful plastic bags or other recycled materials can also be cut into strips and woven to create fabrics that can be used to make small bags or other accessories.
