The Church of St. James, mentioned in documents as early as 1303 and destroyed by the Hussites in 1427, was rebuilt between 1697 and 1700 and is considered one of the most important Baroque buildings north of the Danube. Carlo Antonio Carlone, the builder of the collegiate church of St. Florian and numerous other magnificent Baroque buildings in the country, is named as the architect. The nave with its stave caps, the magnificent organ and the Anna Chapel - all these are masterful examples of worldly Baroque architecture, the likes of which are rarely found in the predominantly rural Mühlviertel. The high altarpiece is by Belucci and that of the Queen of the Rosary on the left side altar by Bartholomäus Altomonte. The imposing church tower received its present height of 75 metres in 1875-1877, and its gallery at lofty heights is the focus of a rare custom: when someone dies in Rohrbach, their name is called out in all four directions. St James' Church lies almost exactly in the middle of the newly signposted St James' Way section from Krumau to Passau and on to Sanitago de Compostela.
