The church was probably made of wood at this time and was soon replaced by a stone building in Romanesque style. Around 1400, the Romanesque building was extended by a Gothic addition. The apse was broken open at the front and the current chancel (choir) was added as an extension in a soft style with two simple ribbed vaults. The oldest gravestones of the Zelking family, the former owners of Weinberg Castle, can be found under the present-day altar.
