# Hops

Hops ...
========

... and malt - God forbid
-------------------------

This is an ancient saying that not only describes hops as an ingredient in beer, but also as a remedy, because as such hops are truly versatile. This beautiful climbing plant has made a name for itself in natural medicine.

**The ingredients of hop cones are**

- Essential oil with isoprenoids
- Hop resin with bitter substances such as humulones and lupulones
- flavonoids
- Phytoestrogens
- Tannins

Hops belong to the hemp family and grow up to seven metres high. The flowers grow from June to August, the fruits ripen from July to September and they are wonderful for helping you to fall asleep. Here are two ways to help you fall asleep.
Firstly, you can easily make a tea, and secondly, you can sew or simply fill a great herbal sachet.

### The tea

Take a teaspoon of dried cones and pour a quarter of a litre of water over them. The tea should steep for between 5-10 minutes and be drunk in sips about 1 hour before going to bed. Hops have a high proportion in calming teas because they relax and help you fall asleep.

### Sleeping bag

**You need:**

- A cotton or sisal bag (you can also sew one)
- Dried hop cones

The cones need to be dried first before you can use them. Then fill a bag three-quarters full with the cones and tie it tightly at the top. In the evening, take it to bed with you to fall asleep and place it close to your face. It has a calming effect and helps you to fall asleep.

I don't wish anyone to suffer from insomnia, but unfortunately there are a lot of people with this problem. I hope to have brought a little relief to this problem with these two recipes, yours

**PS:** If you buy or sew a beautiful little bag made from linen or other natural fabrics, then this would also make a really magical gift. You can also decorate the bag with embroidery or something similar.
